  Stephen King's Dark Tower
Email Page to Friend

World Fantasy Award-winning writer Stephen King, long acknowledged as the master of modern horror, and Marvel Comics have joined forces to launch a ground-breaking 30-issue comic book series adapted from King's magnum opus, The Dark Tower, further supplementing and defining the saga's mythology.

Under the direction and guidance of King himself, with the creative team of Dark Tower expert Robin Furth (author of Stephen King's The Dark Tower: A Complete Concordance), New York Times-bestselling author Peter David, Eisner Award-winning artist Jae Lee and fan-favorite colorist Richard Isanove, the first seven-issue series, entitled The Gunslinger Born, expands the saga of King's epic hero, Roland Deschain, whose quest to save the Dark Tower has been captured in seven best-selling novels published over the course of twenty-five years.

The Gunslinger Born delves into the life and times of the young Roland, revealing the trials and conflicts that lead to the burden of destiny he must assume as a man, that of becoming the last Gunslinger from a world that has moved on.

Following that, and launching in February 2008, is the five-issue The Long Road Home, in which we witness the tet’s difficult journey back to Gilead after Susan Delgado’s terrible death in the previous series, and Roland’s horror as he sees that death reflected in the evil seeing sphere known as Maerlyn’s Grapefruit.

Four more story-arcs are planned over the course of 18 more issues, and Marvel plans to release Premiere Hardcover collections of each series after their completion.

"As a lifelong fan of Marvel comic books, and as an adult reader who's seen comics 'come of age' and take their rightful place in the world of fantasy and science fiction, I'm excited to be a part of Roland's new incarnation," said Stephen King.
